Sustainability and crisis management
Act sustainably. Overcome crises.
Strong structures for a resilient region
The Görlitz district, as a border region with its predominantly rural areas, diverse structures, and varied natural landscapes, faces particular challenges that require sustainable, robust, and resilient structures. This is precisely why sustainability and crisis management are closely intertwined. They form the basis for making the region resilient, using resources responsibly, and responding promptly and effectively to changes and crises across borders.
ENO is committed to the sustainable, resilient, and secure development of the region. Its focus is on initiating, applying for, implementing, and supporting projects that strengthen resilience and sustainably improve disaster preparedness. Particular emphasis is placed on building and establishing sustainable structures that enable better management of hazardous situations and support the early detection of crises.
ENO works closely with the relevant stakeholders in crisis management in the Görlitz district to develop joint solutions for current and future challenges.
Furthermore, ENO supports regional stakeholders, including companies, associations, municipalities, and public authorities, in the development and implementation of projects and funding applications. Thematic priorities range from the circular economy and business development to the energy sector.
Through its participation in events, networking meetings and strategic development processes, ENO represents regional future topics and provides impetus for the sustainable development of the region.

CIFAD III – Cross-border disaster relief
The EU project CIFAD III improves cooperation between emergency services in the German-Polish border region during climate-related disasters such as floods or forest fires. A shared communication platform and modern technology ensure that information, emergency personnel, and resources can be coordinated more quickly in an emergency. ENO is responsible for the operational project management: We coordinate the partners' activities, keep track of all aspects, and ensure the smooth running and secure financial management of the project.

Digital solutions for strong forests
"5G Forest Guardian" project aims to improve early forest fire detection in the Görlitz district through the use of modern technology. Using 5G networks, sensors, and artificial intelligence, forest fires will be detected and located early. This will enable a faster response from emergency services, thus contributing to forest protection and improved public safety. The project demonstrates the practical application of 5G technology in rural areas. ENO has been commissioned by the Görlitz district to manage the project and handle media relations.

Hydrogen Forums Upper Lusatia
With the Upper Lusatia Hydrogen Forums (WFO for short), we aim to highlight regional potential, needs, and production projects in Lusatia. At the same time, we want to raise awareness of this future-oriented topic in the region and promote interregional cooperation. This brings together hydrogen (H₂) consumers and producers with funding providers and other interested parties, creating attractive conditions for businesses to establish operations in the region.

Innovative environmental solutions
With the project "A319 112 has landed," ENO supported an innovative development in the field of sustainable structural development in the Görlitz district. At Rothenburg airfield, regional and international partners collaborated on the recycling of aircraft, aiming to return high-quality components to the use cycle and develop a CO₂-neutral business environment. ENO acted as a networking partner, supported the process on-site, and helped to raise awareness of the project as a forward-looking approach to sustainable value creation and skilled worker development in the region.

Wastewater use for hydrogen production
In the project for reusing treated wastewater for the production of green hydrogen, ENO is supporting an innovative approach to the sustainable use of regional resources. The goal is to use treated wastewater as the basis for hydrogen production, thereby opening up new avenues for resource-efficient energy supply. ENO supports the project as a coordinating and networking partner, bringing together relevant partners from industry, research, and administration, and helping to raise awareness of the project as a pioneering impetus for structural development, the energy transition, and regional value creation.

From waste material to raw material
As part of the 2025 alliance meeting in Zittau, ENO supported the "EnviroPlast" project, which focuses on developing innovative materials from residual materials. The project's goal was to transform previously unused resources into high-quality materials, thereby creating new approaches for a sustainable circular economy in the region. ENO supported the project as a networking partner, bringing together stakeholders from business, science, and administration, and strengthening exchange within the alliance. At the same time, it helped to raise awareness of the topic as an important driver of sustainable innovation and regional value creation.
"Together with our partners, we are trying to position the Görlitz district in such a way that the region's resilience is strengthened, crises are recognized early, risks are better assessed, and suitable measures can be implemented in a timely manner."
